Urban Rants .1.

What do you see yourself as in the future? Perhaps a career woman, juggling a job of minimum satisfaction with moderate pay returns. Having a family of four, doing the dishes every night, screaming at Chris, the elder son, to do the dishes and tying your little Sandra’s ponytail. The sometimes great sex with your best friend The Husband. Warding off unwanted yet innocent advances from your nineteen year old hormone-charged gardener. Looking after your doddering parents who ever so often give valuable advice that you chuck down the gutter. Practicing the “I’m so much older than you, dears.” on your children, ignoring all the wisdom there is in an innocent child’s mind. Feeling happy, feeling sad. Feeling stressed. Feeling excited. Feeling anxious, feeling grumpy. Feeling hopeful, feeling lost. Feeling feeling feeling.

Then there’s the sitting down and wondering how this all came to be.

It could have been so different, there could have been nothing. You could be alone in this world forever. Lousy desk job, un-married, childless, broke. Worst still, a virgin. What then? What lies ahead of a life like that? Imagine being in the same bedroom you have had since you were thirteen. The same bed that looked towards the pictures and clippings that you kept. Pictures that had turned yellow, tossed aside, new ones put up and yellowed as well. It is as if the entire world that turned, but you alone had remained like it was before. You lift your wearied hands and try to push the earth around. “Make it spin, make it spin,” you say. But it just would not budge. It is the earth you know.
